Smart Bowen Therapy is a world leader in all facets of Bowen Therapy training, offering courses to the highest professional standards in Bowen for treating people, horses or small animals.
Upon completion of their chosen training program, the graduate can become a registered Practitioner or Therapist (conditions apply), for humans, equine or small animals with a State Bowen Therapists Association which is a member of the Bowen Therapists Federation of Australia.
Smart Bowen Therapy is Brian Smart’s interpretation of the ‘Bowen Technique’ that he learnt in 1992, and was based on the work of the late Thomas (Tom) Ambrose Bowen (1916 – 1982) of Geelong in Victoria, Australia.
Bowen is a soft tissue rolling/stretching technique applied in a series of movements using the thumbs or fingers on the skin. Brian has taken the original concept of Bowen therapy and added his own theories to client assessment and the application of the technique, based on the knowledge gained from all of his previous training as an Advanced Life Support Ambulance Officer, Remedial Massage Therapist, and his own research.
Brian has developed many new dynamic Bowen style moves/procedures during his years in professional clinical practice since first leaning the technique in 1992. It is these extra remedial procedures that set Smart Bowen Therapy apart from other interpretations of Tom Bowen’s work.
Smart Bowen Therapy is a very dynamic remedial bodywork technique that is relatively gentle and can be very relaxing, (although some moves may produce momentary discomfort in some people and or animals). Bowen empowers the body’s own healing resources achieving balance and harmony, resulting in fast and lasting relief from pain and discomfort. Bowen is an all embracing vibrational energy therapy, which is safe to use on any person or animal, from newborns to the elderly, with most conditions from sports injuries o chronic or organic complaints.

Smart Bowen Therapy as developed by Brian Smart was first taught in 1999. The course structures have continually changed since then to keeping pace with what is required from within the industry and with the way that Brian practices Bowen Therapy in his clinic today.
The modular format allows for a greater volume of information and knowledge to be taught in the allocated time frame. Upon acceptance into the course, students are now supplied with a pre-course reading pack, allowing them to commence their learning prior to attending the first stage of their nominated program. Students consolidate each stage of their training with supervised revision, recorded case studies and practical application of the techniques learnt. A continual assessment process monitors the student’s progress throughout the stages, with students required to demonstrate their competence and understanding of the work.
Smart Bowen Therapy prides itself on its extensive practical research and having developed the largest range of remedial Bowen Therapy moves/procedures that is currently taught within any of the BTFA recognized colleges/schools.
At Smart Bowen Therapy we are continually striving for excellence in our field with ongoing research and developing ways of improving positive outcomes for the client. New concepts are being introduced throughout the program in all of the training streams whether it is for treating people, horses or small animals.

Smart Bowen Therapy is the name of the style of Bowen Therapy taught by Brian Smart and his team of instructors. It is derived from Brian’s surname and the technique that we practice and teach.
